On March 29, 1911, days after the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City, a terrible inferno raged at the New York State Capitol. Considered the greatest library fire disaster of modern times, it claimed 450,000 books and 270,000 manuscripts, but some priceless relics survived. Though the fire left scars on New York history, it also contributed to profound fire safety changes.
