The summer of 2007 marks the 175th anniversary of the Black Hawk War— a conflict which began when the Sauk warrior Black Hawk attempted to reclaim tribal land and a traditional way of life. It ended with a massacre—which remains one of the bloodiest incidents in Wisconsin history.
