NJ child welfare system: released from federal oversight

Twenty years ago, New Jersey’s child welfare system was in disrepair. The problem came into focus when two separate cases were reported of children starved and abused in their homes, with no oversight from their caseworkers. Fast forward two decades, and the department has received glowing praise for its improvements, even being touted as a national model.
