Learn more about one of Chautauqua's oldest institutions, the CLSC. The Chautauqua Literary & Scientific Circle was founded in 1878 as a way to extend the Chautauqua program beyond the grounds. The CLSC was a structured four-year correspondence course and was especially popular among those that did not readily have access to higher education. The CLSC still continues at Chautauqua today.
