History of "The Well of Loneliness"
In 1928, British author Radclyffe Hall published a semi-autobiographical novel about a lesbian relationship, bringing the subject of homosexuality into the country’s literary culture. While lesbianism was not considered illegal at the time, the book was deemed illegal, and was quickly removed from circulation.
